Cherries
With 2,500 acres of cherry orchards, a visit to Door County isn’t complete without picking, tasting and otherwise celebrating the beloved cherry. Local cherry growers offer orchard tours and the chance for visitors to pick their own. For those who prefer to sip their cherries, there are several wineries throughout the county offering delicious cherry wine. If you’re lucky enough to visit during the spring, be sure to take pictures of the spring cherry blossoms. They’re hard to miss.

Door County has miles of shoreline (250 to be exact) and 53 public beaches for visitors to enjoy all year-round from the soft and sandy beaches dotting the shores of Lake Michigan to smooth-pebbled Schoolhouse Beach, a geological treasure as one of only five limestone beaches in the world. Whether you’re looking to soak up the sun, take in a picnic or cool off on a hot summer day, you’re guaranteed to find a beach in Door County that suits your needs.

From a Jet Ski or pontoon to sailboat and tall-ship scenic cruises, Door County’s 250 miles of breath-taking shoreline and countless marinas make it the perfect place to enjoy Lake Michigan and the rustic Wisconsin scenery from a new perspective.
lighthouses
Originally built as beacons to guide ships to safety in the 1800s, Door County is home to 11 historic lighthouses throughout the peninsula and surrounding islands. Scenic guided Segway, trolley and boat tours are available for visitors wanting to take a closer look. And the Door County Maritime Museum Lighthouse Festival held in June gives enthusiasts even more access to these iconic landmarks.

If you’re passionate about birds, grab your binoculars and head to Door County. Designated as a Bird City Wisconsin community in 2014, Door County strives to educate the public and protect its bird populations. Depending on the season, bird enthusiasts can expect to see all species of ducks, geese and cranes along with the less common indigo bunting, scarlet tanagers, tundra swans, pine siskins and many more.
